Donations Needed
Cloth for Kids is always happy to receive fabric donations! If you are cleaning out a basement or your own storage bins and have wondered if we will accept your fabric donations, here's a summary of what we can accept and what we cannot accept.
We Will Accept:
- Clean, new woven cottons minimum 1/2 metre (or 1/2 yard)
- Clean, new flannels, preferably in baby or childrens prints
- Clean new cotton knits
- Clean new minky or similar fabrics
- Yarns that are fresh on the skein
- Fabrics that have been preshrunk or prewashed are acceptable
- Brand new rotary cutting blades 60MM size
- Thread for sergers and sewing machines
- If you have quilt tops that are completed but need batting etc, contact us for more details
We Will NOT Accept:
- Used or upcycled fabrics of any type
- Shower curtains, curtains, upholstery
- Sheets or any other type of bedding
- Torn or dirty fabrics or fabrics that have been used for another purpose
- Yarns that have been unwoven from an item and are clearly worn/used
- Fabrics that are covered in pet hair (many of our volunteers are highly allergic to animal danders)
- Fabrics from a smoker's home
- Used rotary cutting blades
Unfortunately there have been times when donations have been left for us and we've had to redonate the fabrics to other organisations as the fabrics were not usable for our purposes.
If you have fabrics that you'd like to donate but are unsure about them, contact us and we'll give you details!
How We Fundraise
Many of our clients - the agencies who best know what the needs of the community are and who make sure that our products get to the people who need them most - often give a donation for those products, which helps us greatly.
Sometimes fabrics and notions donated to us are not suitable for children's clothing or quilts. We are able to use some of these fabrics to make other fundraising items, which are offered to the general public for donations during our annual Christmas Fundraiser event (usually in November each year). Proceeds from this event allows us to purchase supplies.
On occasion, we have also received contributions from individuals or companies who see our charity as worthwhile, and most importantly, local. Because we are a recognized Charity, tax deductible receipts are available for identified cash donations of $25 or more.
